Rihanna Debuts New Fragrance Reb’l Fleur

Rihanna Debuts New Fragrance Reb’l Fleur

When Rihanna got the phrase “rebelle fleur” tattoed on her neck at the end of August, it caused quite a stir. Not because it was so visible, but because it was gramatically incorrect. In French, “rebellious flower” actually translates into “fleur rebelle.”  But the popstar wasn’t bothered, and went on to name her first fragrance the same thing. Photos of its packaging leaked yesterday and the grammar’s only worsened.  They’ve whipped up an impromptu contraction for “rebel” so it reads “reb’l” and then “fleur.”

The scent smells like flowers and coconut water, and it won’t come out until next year, but the red hair she dons on its box will forever be linked to her 2010 look.

Get Perfect Plum Eye Shadow Like Halle Berry

Get Perfect Plum Eye Shadow Like Halle Berry

Purple eye shadow lights up brown eyes beautifully, and it’s a subtle enough shade to wear day or night. To get a perfect-anytime look like Halle Berry’s, a shimmery or semisheer shade of plum is best, and there are many options available.

If you want a variety of color choices and some application guidance, check out the Maybelline Expert Wear Eyeshadow Quad ($5), and if you want a single, softer hue, try Stila Cosmetics Eye Shadow Pan in Barefoot Contessa ($18).

How To Politely Tell Someone They’re Wearing Too Much Perfume

How To Politely Tell Someone They're Wearing Too Much Perfume

We’ve all been in situations where you’re pressed up in close vicinty against someone. A movie theater. The subway. The elevator. And from a distance, the person looks fine. They look so normal. And then you sit down next to them and you realize that it’s as though perfume bomb has exploded directly inside your nostrils.

For a long time now we’ve just been grabbing our throats, pretending to choke, allowing ourselves to fall limply to the ground hoping they get the message that their perfume is like poison, but we’re trying to be adults lately, and we can’t drop and roll the way we used to. So we asked the lovely Hannah Holman – the face of Marc Jacob’s Daisy Eau So Fresh perfume – for advice. She claims:

“I gave this to someone and she loved it, and she was putting it on and said she was almost out. And I said “that’s because you just sprayed on ten sprays.” And she said “yeah, I really like it!” So I kind of said, “you know, when you’re standing by people, you don’t want it to be too powerful! You want it to make people curious, you want them to be like ‘oh, what’s that nice smell?’ instead of, ‘I can smell that across the room.” If you have to tell someone, say it to them like you’re advising them! Or make up a story. Like, ‘Someone told me that your perfume is a little much.’”

Okay, so from now on the story you can make up is “I saw two girls clutching their throats, falling to the ground, gasping out some Wilfred Owen lines. Maybe ease up on the perfume?” http://thegloss.com/

Lady Gaga Goes Gothic for MAC Viva Glam

Lady Gaga's New MAC Viva Glam Campaign
If there’s one thing to love about Lady Gaga, it’s that she doesn’t let mainstream brands dilute her image. This month she’s pushing the limits as Vogue’s covergirl and the face of MAC Viva Glam—not to mention causing chaos at the Grammy’s.

In the leadup to her campaign launch, Gaga has released an artistic video that’s beautifully eery and kind of gothic. It’s definitely a step away from MAC’s usual overt glamour. But don’t think she’s doing it all for show, Gaga is working with MAC on a campaign to bring awareness to AIDS and HIV starting March 17. Learn more about her efforts and find out how you can get involved by checking out Gaga’s message to her fans at VivaGlam.com.

L’Oreal Wants You to Strike a Pose like the Stars

Awards season has everyone staring at pictures of gorgeous stars dressed to the nines and looking beyond amazing. We look to celebs for hair, makeup, and wardrobe cues, so why can’t turn to them to learn the right poses to create perfect pictures like they can? That’s where L’Oreal Paris comes in. They’ve created an online academy to give you all the tools you need to always look red carpet ready (or Facebook fabulous!). Celebrity event planner Andrea Correale of Elegant Affairs gave terrific tips on how to make love to the camera:

•    Turn three quarters with a shoulder to the camera and one foot in front of the other to look slimmer
•    Keep your smile relaxed; don’t say “Cheese” since it tenses up your smile
•    Focus your eyes just above the camera lens so you’re always looking the right way
•    Rest your hands on your hips or thighs if you’re not sure where your hands should go
•    Tilt your head a little to the side or towards the person towards the person you are posing with

Perfecting your pose in the mirror will give you all the practice, practice, practice you need to shine at your next special event.

Get Sexy S-Waves with TRESemmé

Tracy Reese was one of the hottest shows to hit up during Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week. While we oohed and aahed over how gorgeous the clothes were, we also envied each model’s gorgeous locks. We got the inside scoop from lead hairstylist for the show Jeanie Syfu, as she explained to us how to achieve one of the hottest hair trends for fall 2011 at the TRESemmé Salon & Lounge in Lincoln Center.

Tracy Reese had natural, wavy tresses on the runway without the high-watt shine we’ve been used to the past few season. Syfu used TRESemmé’s 24-Hour Body Mousse throughout the hair and dried it. She then made S-shapes with a curling iron down the length of each lock by twisting it back and forth for deep waves. She set it with the 24-Hour Body Aero Finishing Spray and Fresh Start Dry Shampoo to give it a matte finish. Syfu dusted in touches of red, copper and even blue with the help of spray-on temporary dyes, and the models were set to stun.

Jeanie Syfu puts the finishing touches on a model before the Tracy Reese show.

Gucci Just Got a Bit Guiltier – Gucci Guilty

Lately we’ve found ourselves wearing Gucci Guilty (the fragrance) every time we saunter off into the night in search of booze, boys, and a bar to boogie on. (Trust us—it’s the perfect fragrance for this type of debauchery.)

Since we party pretty hard (and for several hours on end), we usually head home in the wee hours of the morning smelling quite… innocent.

Good thing there’s an accompanying ancillary set that helps our favorite scent linger a little longer. By layering Gucci Guilty Eau de Toilette over the Perfumed Shower Gel and Body Lotion, now the sweet smell of guilt will last long after we do.

Gucci to Launch a Beauty Line

OliviaWIldeGucciGirls! Now you can wear Gucci on your body, on your feet, on your pulse points, and on your face.

We hear that Procter & Gamble Prestige will extend their current beauty license agreement with the luxury Italian brand. In addition to fragrance, P&G Prestige will now create a full-blown skin care and makeup collection with the Gucci group.

FYI, we’re beyond thrilled, and can only hope that their cosmetics makes us look just as sexy as Gucci Guilty makes us feel.

More details on this exciting news to follow at a later date.

(P.S.: First Giorgio Armani Beauty, then Dolce & Gabanna Makeup, now Gucci. Who’s got next? Will the real Versace please stand up?!)

NarsBleekerStreet

Not only are Vena Cava, Rachel Comey, Mara Hoffman, Wayne, and BCBG showing their AW11 collections, makeup maestro François Nars is set to open his first brick and mortar NARS boutique in the West Village at 413 Bleecker Street, between West 11th and Bank Street. (It’s been 16 years since its inception—it’s about time!)

Fans of NARS are sure to be as overjoyed as we are to finally be able to peruse the their full SKU list.. If you’ll be in town for #NYFW, make sure you make your way downtown to check it out (and shop, obviously).

P.S.: We’ll certainly be there, stocking up on a few tubes of Jungle Red lipstick (shown above).
