Lady Gaga Goes Gothic for MAC Viva Glam

Lady Gaga's New MAC Viva Glam Campaign
If there’s one thing to love about Lady Gaga, it’s that she doesn’t let mainstream brands dilute her image. This month she’s pushing the limits as Vogue’s covergirl and the face of MAC Viva Glam—not to mention causing chaos at the Grammy’s.

In the leadup to her campaign launch, Gaga has released an artistic video that’s beautifully eery and kind of gothic. It’s definitely a step away from MAC’s usual overt glamour. But don’t think she’s doing it all for show, Gaga is working with MAC on a campaign to bring awareness to AIDS and HIV starting March 17. Learn more about her efforts and find out how you can get involved by checking out Gaga’s message to her fans at VivaGlam.com.

Dark Skin, Pink Lips: How to Make It Work According to MAC’s Romero

JessicaWhitePinkLipstickMaybelline model Jessica White would look incredibly stunning wearing any lipstick color, but she’s especially gorgeous here with a pretty petal pink pout. We’re a tad bit envious though; we clearly share the exact same complexion, yet we can’t pull off that lip color.

Or can we?

We chatted with Romero—one of MAC‘s marvelous senior makeup artists—at the MAC Wonder Woman SoHo Pop-Up Shop last week, and asked him to impart a bit of his infinite wisdom on us. Here’s what he had to say:

“You have to use a lip pencil (like Chestnut or Cork); it’s really important. You can’t just buy a really bright lip gloss or a lipstick and put it on by itself. I always recommend you use a base of brown lipstick (like Photo). If you’re not a fan of pencil, use a brown lipstick and blot the excess and layer the gloss or lipstick over it. This way you get a balance of the brown (like your complexion) and the bright color at the same time.”

MAC Cosmetics Jeanius Collection for Spring 2011 – Sneak Peek!

MAC Cosmetics Jeanius Collection for Spring 2011 - Sneak Peek!

MAC Cosmetics has caught our attention once again with an upcoming denim-inspired collection called Jeanius.

Launching in March, the jean-dream line-up features eyeshadows, Lipglasses, lipsticks, nail polishes, blush, a Penultimate Brow Maker, and a Penultimate Eye Liner.

But it’s the eyeshadow compacts that really have us excited: the shimmering shades come in modern, fresh hues and feature an adorable jean button design.

And we can’t wait to get the “Bike Blue” nail lacquer on our fingertips. The shade is just dark enough to go with everything — just like your favorite pair of jeans.

MAC Jeanius Collection is set to hit beauty counters in the U.S. March 3.

MAC Wonder Woman Makeup Collection for Spring 2011

MAC Wonder Woman Makeup Collection for Spring 2011

Wonder Woman is swooping in to save you from plain Jane beauty fate.

DC Comics’ most iconic heroine of all time is teaming up with MAC Cosmetics for a Spring 2011 makeup collection inspired by Wonder Woman’s blue, red and gold bustier leotard, her cunning super power-meets-glamazon charms, and a strong punch of what the beauty brand is calling her “kick-sass” girl power.

You’ll get more pretty for your penny with this collection, as must-haves like the berry-toned lipglasses, metallic shimmer pigment powders and mineralize skinfinish compacts will all come in oversized packaging meant to mimic the larger-than-life heroine’s taste for all things big.

(Ad visuals show our favorite lady’s bustline and raven locks aren’t left out of that Texas-like bigger-is-better equation. Take that, She-Ra!)

Metallic makeup pouches and clever “tool belts” come equipped with limited-edition blue short-handled makeup brushes, because you’ll need to powder your nose and touch up that sexy eyeliner smudge in between your bad guy slaying kicks and inter-galactic battles.

The inspiration behind the creative partnership came from a distinct type of feminine energy that experts say you’ll see more of come springtime.

New MAC Cosmetics Peacocky Collection

 New MAC Cosmetics Peacocky Collection

MAC Peacocky hit counters this past week, and in addition to providing us with a new adjective, the collection features two brand-new products: Kissable Lipcolour and Mega Metal Shadow.

Arrogance or elegance? The showy display, the undeniably sexual spectacle, the iridescent irreverence…it’s awe-inspiring. We fetishize the exotic peacock as a symbol of extreme beauty, an act of elaborate nature, raging against everything simplistic. Peacocky fans out in a foray of intense colour for Lips and Eyes, exotic and sophisticated with a touch of ’30s F. Scott Fitzgerald glamour and mesmerizing metallic sheen. Dramatic doesn’t even begin to describe the girl who knows she’s Peacocky.
