MAC Cosmetics' first reality-show competition

The first episode of MAC’s Halloween Face-Off challenge aired on the beauty brand’s YouTube channel on October 25. The fierce reality-show competition pits three MAC makeup artists against each other in a challenge to create the most stunning Halloween look in under three hours.

The show is hosted by Lauren Ezersky, presenter of the American TV program Behind the Velvet Ropes, and features makeup gurus Jenn Karsten, Joey Camasta, and Fatima Thomas. The three contestants clash in this high-drama mini-series given their ambition and egos as they all vie for the title of 2010′s Diva of Disguise.

Episode Two of the competition will be available for viewing on MAC’s YouTube page and its Facebook wall beginning October 26 at 10 am EST. Additional episodes will follow.

The winner of the competition will be chosen by MAC fans via the cosmetics brand’s Facebook page.

MAC Cosmetics (Makeup Art Cosmetics) was started in Canada by Frank Toskan and Frank Angelo in 1984. Since its founding, the beauty brand has risen to become one of the most recognizable labels when it comes to professional makeup. It was acquired by Estée Lauder in 1998.

Other beauty labels also regularly post videos and makeup tutorials on their Facebook and YouTube pages to reach out to their fans and boast strong followings on these social networking sites (take Smashbox, Make Up Forever and L’Oréal, for example), but MAC is the first brand to launch such an internet reality show competition.

MAC Opulash Mascara for Summer 2010

THE BIGGEST, BADDEST, BOUFFANT LASHES EVER ARE MAKING NOISE WITH THEIR SEXY SWEEP… the most extremevolumization ever seen! Just like going to your hairdresser for the boldest Barbarella blowout you’d ever dare to wear, Opulash creates aesthetic extremes when it gets going, for a dramatic end look. It’s all in the brush: enlarged and engineered to grab roots, lift, hold, replicate, exaggerate, and build-out like an architect intent on astounding with structural sleight-of-hand. Pick up the brush – see it volumize and curl – and you’ll know the difference. Large diameter backs you up, tapered front tip makes inner corners sleeker to reach. Needless to say, no clumping or Spider-Woman Syndrome. Superlative separation, sublime innovation: Everything a M•A•C Artist lives for!

U.S. Launch Date: May 27, 2010

Oprah Winfrey steals Mo'Nique's 'Precious' thunder at M.A.C. cosmetics party

Oprah sure knows how to steal the spotlight!

A spy at Saturday’s M.A.C. cosmetics bash for Mo’Nique at Phillippe Chow in L.A. said that when Ms. Winfrey made a surprise appearance, attendees like Shondrella Avery and Jackee Harry “flipped out” and even “had tears in their eyes.”

“The ladies really couldn’t believe she was at the same party,” the source says. But ever the diva, Mo stole back the limelight when she insisted the entire Parisian-themed luncheon area be turned into a dance floor when the guests finished eating. She then requested that Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On” be turned on full blast.

“Mo’Nique started a conga line that went throughout the restaurant and eventually led out to the valet parking area,” the partygoer says. “The ladies, who were all decked in pearls and white gloves, were really getting down.”

MAC Introduces Viva Glam Cyndi and Viva Glam Gaga Lipsticks

These beautiful lipsticks hit counters a few weeks ago and the packaging adorned with Cyndi and Gaga’s autographes are the perfect touch. As a cool-toned pink girl, I’m gravitating to Viva Glam Gaga, but I think the Viva Glam Cyndi is a flattering soft red with a warm tone. I see that one looking great on many women.

What do you think of the new additions to the Viva Glam line? I’m always going to be partial to Viva Glam V, but these are refreshingly unique.
